Humid summer afternoons, and lightly
painted paper fans, of the raising of
the cross.
Church Sunday, many hours lost in there.
My grandpa sleeping in the pew,
has overcome the need for prayer.
Church's white walls and soft
pine floors.
Lifts from me everything,
known and learned.
At times I yearn for the man
who has passed.
Dusty wet, markers behind,
the soft white walls
the swamp I cry.
