Pinot Blanc for the first time

Label
It's true, it's new — the first time we've made a commercial Pinot blanc to further expand our Alsace varietals. Although Pinot blanc is the volume white varietal there (at Stoller Vineyards) and is a difficult grape from which to make a distinguished wine, we're excited about the progress we've made with the variety and proudly release a small amount of 1999 vintage. The fruit is from Stoller Vineyards.

Barrel fermented, this Pinot blanc carries chardonnay-like light caramel characteristics with typical straw-toned fruit. It is soft and full, with ultra-ripe apple, peach or starfruit aromas, dusty white chocolate hints and sizable alcohol leading to a lush, slippery palate. It finishes with a slight mineral and earth component and warmth.

Artist Ted Katz

As with our other wines, since this is a new varietal, we have created a new label too, with a new Ted Katz abstract art piece entitled Enormous Morning, selected for its appropriate colors to represent Pinot blanc flavors. The 2000 vintage Pinot Blanc continues the progress and is excellent now in neutral barrel in the cellar, with a release later in the year so this year's tiny amount (75 cases) is not lonely.
